Thomas Horsch Leaves SV Werder Bremen Women’s Team After Four Successful Years
Following a remarkable run to the DFB-Pokal semifinals, SV Werder Bremen’s women’s team is on the lookout for a new head coach as Thomas Horsch announced his departure at the end of the season.
"Thomas, together with Birte Brüggemann, has laid a solid foundation for the Werder women’s team over the past four years and has developed a team that has established itself in the Bundesliga," said Clemens Fritz, Director of Football, in a club statement. "We must accept and respect his decision."
A Bremen native, Horsch has held various roles within Werder’s organization, including stints as co-coach for the men’s team in the Bundesliga. "I’ve had eight and a half fantastic years at Werder, first with the men’s team in the 3rd division, then in the Bundesliga, and the last four years with the women’s team," said Horsch. "It’s a time I’ll never forget and from which I’ll take a lot."
Horsch’s tenure has been marked by significant progress for the Bremen women’s team. Under his guidance, they have secured their place in the Bundesliga, consistently finishing in the top half of the table. In the 2022-23 season, they reached the semifinals of the DFB-Pokal for the first time in the club’s history.
"The time has come for a new chapter," said Horsch. "I’m grateful for the opportunity I’ve had to work with such a talented group of players and staff at Werder Bremen. I wish the team all the best for the future."
Werder Bremen expressed its gratitude for Horsch’s contributions to the club. "We thank Thomas for his hard work and dedication during his time at Werder," said Fritz. "He has played a significant role in the development of our women’s team, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors."
The search for a new coach is already underway, and Werder Bremen is confident of finding a suitable replacement to continue the team’s upward trajectory.
