Verdi Adopts Modified Assembly Plans in Response to Munich Attack
In the aftermath of the suspected attack on a striking crowd in Munich, the Verdi labor union has announced that it will proceed with its planned demonstrations in North Rhine-Westphalia, but with significant modifications.
A Verdi spokesperson, responding to an inquiry from the German Press Agency (DPA), emphasized that the union, in close collaboration with local security authorities, will alter the format of its assemblies.
Two primary approaches will be employed:

Shortened Memorial Marches: Demonstrations will be shortened and transformed into solemn memorial marches, consisting solely of a brief address.
In some instances, Verdi has opted to forgo rallies altogether and will instead organize silent strikes directly at workplaces and service centers to facilitate discussions about the tragic events in Munich.
"Our thoughts are with our colleagues and those affected in Munich," Verdi stated.
The Munich incident involved a 24-year-old Afghan man reportedly driving a car into a Verdi demonstration, injuring at least 28 individuals.
Strikes Unaffected, But Display Format Adjusted
Verdi stressed that the strike actions themselves will not be impacted by these modifications, which solely pertain to the format of on-site events.
The union’s decision reflects both a commitment to ongoing labor actions and a recognition of the need to prioritize safety and respect for the victims of the Munich attack.
