On the solemn anniversary of its 75th birthday, 1. FC Köln has bestowed a prestigious honor upon its iconic mascot, Hennes I, by enshrining him within the hallowed halls of its Hall of Fame. Seven and a half decades ago, on February 13th, 1950, the club received an extraordinary gift – a rambunctious Geißbock (goat) from a circus during a celebratory Karnevalssitzung. This extraordinary creature would forever be etched into the fabric of the club’s identity, affectionately named Hennes in homage to the revered player-coach Hennes Weisweiler.

In the early years of his tenure, Hennes I embarked on an adventurous odyssey, accompanying the team to almost every match, initially nestled within the confines of the team bus and later ensconced in a specially designed trailer. However, as the demands of animal welfare, logistics, and DFB regulations intensified, he was gradually relegated to gracing only home games with his presence. Sadly, in November 1966, Hennes I succumbed to the inexorable passage of time, leaving behind an indelible legacy. Since 2019, the mantle has been proudly carried by Hennes IX, the ninth generation of this beloved talisman.
