Family Dollar and Uber Eats Partner to Offer Delivery, Amidst Ownership Changes
Family Dollar, amidst ongoing transitions in its corporate structure, has announced a collaboration with Uber Eats, the food delivery application owned by Uber. This partnership aims to expand customer access to Family Dollar’s products through the convenience of delivery. The announcement comes as Dollar Tree, the parent company of Family Dollar, prepares to sell the bargain store chain to private equity firms.
According to a press release issued on May 6, Uber revealed that Family Dollar would be integrated into the Uber Eats platform, enabling customers to order groceries and other essential items from the store directly through the app. This move is intended to provide customers with a more accessible and convenient shopping experience, particularly in underserved communities.
The partnership surfaces as Dollar Tree finalizes its plans to divest Family Dollar to Brigade Capital Management and Macellum Capital Management. The sale follows Dollar Tree’s earlier announcement that it would be permanently closing 600 Family Dollar stores across the United States. These strategic decisions reflect Dollar Tree’s efforts to streamline its operations and focus on its core Dollar Tree brand.
Dollar Tree anticipates net proceeds of approximately $804 million from the sale of Family Dollar, with the transaction expected to be completed by June 2025. Dollar Tree acquired Family Dollar in 2015 for approximately $9 billion.
Bonita Price, Chief Merchandising Officer at Family Dollar, emphasized the benefits of the partnership with Uber Eats for customers. "By partnering with Uber Eats, it’s now even easier to access essentials from the comfort of home," she said in a statement. "Expanded access at an incredible value goes a long way in helping our customers save time and do more, especially in underserved communities."
As of the announcement, customers can order from 5,000 Family Dollar locations across the U.S. through Uber Eats. As of February 1, Dollar Tree operated 16,500 stores across 48 U.S. states and five Canadian provinces, including stores under the Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, and Dollar Tree Canada brands.
To commemorate the launch of the partnership, Family Dollar and Uber Eats are offering a promotional discount. Customers can receive 40% off Family Dollar orders totaling $30 or more, with a maximum savings of $25. To redeem the discount, customers can enter the promotion code FAMILY40 during checkout on the Uber Eats app. The promotional code is valid until July 4 at 11:59 p.m. PT and cannot be combined with other promotions.
Uber One members will also receive exclusive benefits, including waived delivery fees on eligible orders from Family Dollar.
Hashim Amin, Uber’s Head of Grocery and Retail in North America, highlighted the value of the partnership for consumers seeking budget-friendly shopping options. "As millions of people look to stretch their wallets without sacrificing convenience, we’re proud to welcome Family Dollar to the Uber Eats platform," Amin said. "This partnership expands affordable access to everyday items while giving people even more ways to shop smart, save time, and stay on budget."

The partnership between Family Dollar and Uber Eats represents a strategic effort to enhance customer accessibility and convenience while Dollar Tree continues its corporate restructuring. The promotional offers and exclusive benefits for Uber One members further incentivize customers to take advantage of the new partnership. As Dollar Tree progresses with the sale of Family Dollar, the collaboration with Uber Eats is expected to play a role in maintaining and expanding Family Dollar’s customer base.
