Alyssa Farah Griffin Criticizes Biden’s Media Presence Ahead of ‘The View’ Interview

Alyssa Farah Griffin, co-host of "The View," offered sharp criticism of former President Joe Biden during a recent appearance on CNN. Griffin’s remarks came just before her scheduled interview with Biden and former First Lady Jill Biden on "The View," raising questions about the tone and direction of the upcoming discussion. Her critique centered on Biden’s continued media appearances and their potential impact on his legacy, particularly in light of his declining popularity among some Democratic circles.

During her conversation with CNN’s John Berman, Griffin acknowledged Biden’s achievements, specifically highlighting his role in maintaining the NATO alliance. However, she swiftly juxtaposed this accomplishment with the widely criticized withdrawal from Afghanistan during his presidency. This juxtaposition underscored Griffin’s broader point about the complexities of Biden’s legacy and the challenges he faces in shaping its narrative.

Griffin emphasized that "people are ready to move on," suggesting that Biden’s frequent interviews and public statements might be counterproductive. She drew a comparison to former President Jimmy Carter, who, after his electoral defeat, largely refrained from extensive media engagement, allowing his legacy to evolve organically over time. Griffin argued that Biden should adopt a similar approach, giving his accomplishments and missteps time to be assessed without constant intervention.

"With due respect to the former president, and most former presidents give their legacy some time to breathe," Griffin stated. "I think if Jimmy Carter, when he lost, he did not go out there and do a lot of interviews. He gave his legacy some time and a decade later, he was one of the most beloved former presidents. If I were giving advice to Joe Biden, it’d be give your legacy some time to breathe."

The timing of Griffin’s remarks, just hours before her interview with Biden, raised eyebrows. It suggested a willingness to confront the former president with tough questions and challenge his narrative directly on "The View." This approach could lead to a more engaging and revealing interview, potentially offering viewers a fresh perspective on Biden’s post-presidency endeavors.

CNN political commentator S.E. Cupp echoed Griffin’s sentiments, arguing that Biden’s voice had become "irrelevant" within the current political landscape. Cupp asserted that Democratic voters, lawmakers, and donors had largely moved past Biden and were no longer interested in his opinions or endorsements. She suggested that Biden’s continued public presence could be detrimental to the Democratic Party’s efforts to move forward and define its future.

"The message is fine, the messenger is irrelevant," Cupp said. "And that’s hard to say and maybe hard for him to hear. But listen, Democratic voters are over him. Democratic lawmakers are angry at him. And Democratic donors are over him. They’re past him. They’re done with him. They don’t want him around. And just practically, it’s a very bad time for Joe Biden to pop up."

Berman also highlighted Biden’s response to a question about whether his decision to delay dropping out of the 2024 race had hindered the prospects of other Democratic candidates. Biden dismissed the notion, stating, "I don’t think it would have mattered, we left at a time when we had a good candidate."

Griffin seized upon this statement, arguing that Vice President Kamala Harris had been given insufficient time to mount a successful campaign and that she was burdened by the perceived failures of the Biden administration. Griffin suggested that even the most talented candidate would struggle to overcome the headwinds facing the Democratic Party.

"You could be the greatest political candidate of all time, which the former vice president was not, and you’re not going to be able to overcome that weight, that you’re just carried down by the Biden Administration," she said. "It’s also just not a feat we’ve ever seen in American politics, where somebody’s been elected in that not short of a timeframe."

Griffin’s critique of Biden’s media presence and his perceived impact on the Democratic Party reflects a growing sentiment within some circles. While Biden remains a respected figure among many Democrats, concerns persist about his ability to effectively shape the narrative of his legacy and influence the party’s future direction. Her willingness to voice these concerns publicly sets the stage for what could be a confrontational and revealing interview on "The View," forcing Biden to address directly the criticisms leveled against him. The interview is anticipated to generate significant interest and spark further debate about Biden’s role in American politics post-presidency.
