"Prior to AI, my feeling around this was, none of the others were valid choices," Cue stated, as reported by Bloomberg. "I think today there is much greater potential because there are new entrants attacking the problem in a different way."

Google’s proactive response to the growing AI threat involves integrating AI-generated answers directly into search results. Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, during the company’s recent earnings call, highlighted that their Gemini AI technology has already contributed to an increase in search volume. This suggests that Google is actively attempting to leverage AI to enhance its search capabilities and maintain its relevance in the face of evolving user preferences.

Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives characterized Apple’s move as a "smart" strategic maneuver, suggesting that it serves as a warning signal to Google and represents Apple’s efforts to diversify its options by exploring potential partnerships with AI providers.

D.A. Davidson analyst Gil Luria expressed a more dire outlook for Google, stating that losing its exclusivity agreement with Apple would have "very severe consequences for Google even if there are no further measures." This highlights the potential magnitude of the impact that Apple’s exploration of AI alternatives could have on Google’s business.
