SharkNinja Recalls Over 1.8 Million Pressure Cookers Following Reports of Burn Injuries
A significant safety recall has been issued by SharkNinja, impacting over 1.8 million of its popular multi-function pressure cookers. The recall stems from a design flaw in the lid mechanism, which has led to numerous reports of burn injuries, some severe, due to the lid unexpectedly opening while the appliance is in operation.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) formally announced the recall on May 1, 2025, highlighting that approximately 1,846,400 SharkNinja pressure cookers are affected in the United States, with an additional 184,240 units sold in Canada also subject to the recall. This widespread recall underscores the potential safety risk associated with the faulty product and the importance of immediate action by consumers who own the affected models.
The issue at the heart of the recall centers on a defective lid design that can fail to properly seal or lock during the pressure cooking process. The CPSC has received over 100 reports of burn injuries linked to the faulty pressure cookers. These injuries range in severity, with approximately 50 individuals suffering from second or third-degree burns. The severity of the injuries has prompted legal action against SharkNinja, with 26 lawsuits already filed by individuals who claim to have been harmed by the defective pressure cookers. According to the CPSC, the injuries occur when the pressure cooker’s lid can be opened while the appliance is still in use and pressurized. The agency emphasizes the importance of consumers immediately ceasing use of the affected pressure cookers and contacting SharkNinja for a remedy.
SharkNinja acknowledges the issue and has expressed its commitment to consumer safety. "The safety of our customers is a top priority for SharkNinja," the company stated in a public announcement. "In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, Ninja is conducting a recall to replace the lid on certain Ninja-brand ‘Foodi’ multi-function cookers in the OP300 model family."
The company further clarified that the recall aims to address reports indicating that some consumers have been able to open the pressure-cooking lids of certain units during use, resulting in burn injuries from the hot contents.
The recall specifically targets the SharkNinja Foodi OP300 Series Multi-Function Pressure Cooker. The affected models bear the following model numbers: OP300, OP301, OP301A, OP302, OP302BRN, OP302HCN, OP302HAQ, OP302HW, OP302HB, OP305, OP305CO, OP350CO.
Consumers who own any of these models are strongly advised to immediately discontinue use of the pressure cooker and participate in the recall program. SharkNinja is offering a free lid replacement to address the safety concern.
The recalled pressure cookers were widely available for purchase at major retailers across the United States and online platforms. They were sold at Walmart, Costco, Sam’s Club, Amazon, and Target stores from January 2019 through March 2025, with a retail price of approximately $200. The extensive distribution network highlights the potential reach of the recall and the importance of public awareness.
SharkNinja is urging all owners of the affected pressure cookers to contact the company to arrange for a free lid replacement. The replacement lid is designed to prevent the lid from opening while the appliance is pressurized, mitigating the risk of burn injuries.
