Michael Lohan Arrested Again: Probation Violation and History of Legal Troubles
Michael Lohan, the father of actress Lindsay Lohan, is once again facing legal scrutiny. The 64-year-old was arrested in Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday, March 16th, for allegedly violating his probation. This arrest comes on the heels of a recent felony assault charge in Texas, further compounding his legal woes.
According to documents obtained by Fox News Digital, the arrest occurred at 5:18 p.m. Specific details of the probation violation have not yet been released to the public. However, Lohan’s attorney, Robert Gershman, provided a statement to Fox News Digital, indicating that Michael voluntarily surrendered himself to authorities.
"Michael voluntarily self-surrendered yesterday and has a hearing scheduled on my pleadings for his release tomorrow," Gershman stated. "We are confident Her Honor will give the matter fair and thoughtful consideration. Based on the circumstances, we anticipate Mr. Lohan’s release."
The situation is complicated by the recent felony assault charge filed against Lohan in Texas. Court documents reveal that he was charged in February with "continuous violence against the family," a serious offense. The alleged victim is his estranged wife, Kate Major Lohan.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office provided a detailed account of the events leading to the Texas charge to Fox News Digital. "On Friday February 21, 2025, the complainant (Kate Lohan) was at a medical follow up, when the defendant (Michael Lohan) was observed by Ms. Lohan in the parking lot of the building. A 911 call was placed, and deputies responded."
The statement continued, "She told deputies that Lohan had flipped her out of a chair at their residence a few days earlier. The complainant felt pain and discomfort. A female deputy was able to witness the bruising on the complainant’s body."
Kate Major Lohan also issued a statement to Fox News Digital, expressing her desire for privacy and justice. "I’m praying for privacy for the sake of my kids and myself and pray justice is finally served," she said.
In response to the February arrest, Mike Quinn, a representative for Lohan, offered a statement emphasizing Lohan’s positive qualities and sobriety. "We want to take a moment to recognize Michael Lohan as a devoted father, and I’ve only known him as a loving husband, and a man who has proudly maintained his sobriety for over a decade," Quinn wrote. "His dedication to his younger boys and his unwavering support for his wife, Kate, reflect his deep love and commitment to his family. Michael has consistently stood by Kate’s side, offering his support through her own journey toward sobriety—a challenge they’ve faced together with courage and compassion. As friends of both Michael and Kate, my wife and I truly care for them and believe in their character. We are confident that Michael will be fully cleared in this matter."
As of now, Mike Quinn has not responded to requests for comment regarding Lohan’s most recent arrest in Florida.
Michael Lohan and Kate Major Lohan married in 2014 and have two sons together, Landon Major Lohan and Logan Michael Lohan. Their relationship has been turbulent, marked by periods of separation and reconciliation.
This recent arrest adds to Lohan’s long history of legal troubles. In 2020, he was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor offense of criminal obstruction of breathing and second-degree harassment. He was subsequently placed on probation for two years as a result of that incident.
Furthermore, in 2021, Lohan was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on more serious charges: five counts of patient brokering and one count of conspiracy to commit patient brokering. The Palm Beach Post reported extensively on this case.
Authorities alleged that Lohan was involved in a scheme to refer addicts to rehabilitation centers in exchange for kickbacks. Specifically, a Delray Beach-area drug treatment center called Pride Recovery allegedly paid over $27,000 in kickbacks to either Lohan directly or to a business he was associated with, Lola Recovery Ventures of Palm Beach Gardens.
Under Florida law, it is strictly illegal for healthcare providers to pay commissions for the referral of patients. This practice has been linked to numerous instances of fraud within the rehabilitation industry, where centers are incentivized to perform costly and often unnecessary tests on patients with health insurance, solely to maximize their reimbursements.
The pattern of legal issues raises questions about Michael Lohan’s ability to abide by the law. The combination of the probation violation in Florida and the felony assault charge in Texas presents a challenging legal situation for him. His attorney is confident that a fair hearing will lead to his release, but the court will likely consider his history when making a decision.
The events unfolding also bring attention to the well-being of his children. Kate Major Lohan’s plea for privacy underscores the difficult situation the family is facing.
As the legal proceedings continue, the public will be watching closely to see how these charges are resolved and what impact they will have on Michael Lohan and his family. The situation is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the cases progress through the court system. The immediate future holds a hearing regarding his release on the probation violation, which will be a critical moment in determining his short-term fate. The felony assault charge in Texas will also need to be addressed, adding another layer of complexity to his legal challenges.
