Nicolas Cage Cleared in Lawsuit Filed by Ex-Partner Christina Fulton

Nicolas Cage, the acclaimed actor, has been removed from a lawsuit initiated by his former partner, Christina Fulton. The legal action, which also named Cage’s son, Weston Cage, was filed last month. Fulton has voluntarily dropped the charges against the Oscar-winning actor, but she is continuing her legal pursuit against their son, Weston.

Fulton’s original lawsuit alleged that Nicolas Cage was aware of his son’s history of violence, mental instability, and substance abuse issues. She claimed that Cage’s inaction in the face of these issues constituted negligence. Specifically, Fulton’s allegations, which have now been dismissed against Nicolas Cage, included claims that he bailed Weston out of jail, provided him with financial support, and supplied him with alcohol.

According to a statement released by Fulton’s lawyer, Joseph Farzan, "Ms. Fulton and Mr. Cage have reached an amicable and confidential resolution." The details of this resolution remain undisclosed.

Michael A. Goldstein, the lawyer representing Weston Cage, offered a contrasting perspective. "It appears Ms. Fulton and her personal injury lawyers saw the writing on the wall," Goldstein stated, suggesting that Fulton’s case against Nicolas Cage was weak. He further questioned Fulton’s motivations, stating, "Ms. Fulton’s continuing lawsuit and objectives are suspect given earlier claims of concern for his well-being. Perhaps she will reconsider and send positive energy instead.”

USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Nicolas Cage for comment on the matter, but no response has been received as of yet.

The initial lawsuit, filed in February, detailed Fulton’s accusations against Weston Cage, alleging assault, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Weston Cage was arrested in July for assault with a deadly weapon following an incident in which he allegedly punched and injured two individuals. Fulton claims to have been one of the alleged victims in that incident.

Prior to the July arrest, Weston Cage was involved in another incident in April, where he allegedly punched two people repeatedly at an apartment complex in downtown Los Angeles. Consequently, the Los Angeles Police Department charged him with two felony counts of assault. Weston Cage pleaded not guilty to these charges and was subsequently released on bond.

In a statement provided to USA TODAY following the July incident, Fulton described being contacted by Weston Cage’s friends, who urged her to help him. Upon arriving to console him, she stated that he "was already in the midst of a manic rage." Fulton further claimed, "Within minutes, I was brutally assaulted and sustained serious injuries."

Fulton expressed her deep concern for her son’s mental health, stating, "As a mother, I am deeply saddened and concerned about Weston’s on-going mental health crisis. It is imperative that he receives the help he desperately needs."

Fulton is seeking a jury trial and financial compensation for the injuries she allegedly sustained during the assault. These injuries reportedly include a brain concussion, neck and throat injuries, a disfiguring eye injury, dental and abdominal trauma, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

In addition to the physical and emotional trauma, Fulton claims that the assault has had a devastating impact on her career as a model and actress. She alleges that the incident forced her to miss filming for a Netflix show and has jeopardized other business ventures, including what she described as an "unspecified multimillion-dollar opportunity."

In response to Fulton’s original filing, Weston Cage’s lawyer, Michael Goldstein, characterized the lawsuit as a "money grab" and a "call for attention." He argued that Fulton’s decision to sue her own son was not surprising, given her "past history of litigation against family members."

Goldstein also pointed out that Fulton herself had acknowledged to responding LAPD officers that her son was experiencing a mental health crisis at the time of the alleged incident. "Ms. Fulton correctly advised the responding LAPD officers that her son was in the midst of a mental health crisis at the time of this incident," Goldstein stated. "We will deal with this appropriately, and in a courtroom."

The dismissal of Nicolas Cage from the lawsuit marks a significant development in the case. While the specific reasons for the amicable resolution between Fulton and Cage remain confidential, it suggests that both parties were able to reach an agreement that satisfied their respective interests.

The focus now shifts to the ongoing legal battle between Fulton and Weston Cage. The allegations against Weston Cage are serious, and the outcome of the case will likely have significant consequences for all parties involved. The lawsuit provides a glimpse into the complex dynamics within the Cage family and the challenges they face. The case raises important questions about accountability, mental health, and the responsibilities of family members in supporting individuals struggling with mental health issues and substance abuse.
