Alligator Attack in Florida Canal: Kayakers Struggle to Save Bitten Woman
A harrowing 911 call captured the frantic efforts of a group of kayakers to rescue a woman who fell victim to an alligator attack while paddling in a canal straddling the Polk-Osceola county line in Florida. The incident unfolded on a Monday afternoon, plunging a leisurely kayaking trip into a desperate struggle for survival.
The call, placed by an unidentified man, painted a vivid picture of the chaos and fear that gripped the group of approximately 30 kayakers. His voice, laced with urgency and punctuated by the screams of the injured woman, conveyed the gravity of the situation to the 911 operator.
According to the caller, the alligator had targeted the woman’s elbow, inflicting a painful bite. Adding to the surreal nature of the attack, the alligator also snatched a life jacket from another man in the group, further heightening the sense of vulnerability and danger.
"She’s going into shock," the caller exclaimed, his voice strained with concern. "She’s in real pain."
The 911 operator, recognizing the severity of the situation, calmly advised the group to fashion a makeshift tourniquet to stem the flow of blood. However, their efforts were hampered by the fact that the first aid kit remained inaccessible in one of the kayaks.
The caller’s apprehension was palpable as he explained the group’s reluctance to enter the water, fearing the alligator’s lurking presence. "Nobody really wants to get into the water," he stated, adding, "… The gator might still be there."

The arrival of the helicopter offered a glimmer of hope, and the kayakers signaled their location by holding their paddles aloft. "We’re holding our paddles up," the caller confirmed.
Approximately 44 minutes after the initial 911 call, the helicopter successfully landed, and rescuers reached the stranded group via airboat. The woman was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. However, as of the report from FOX 13, her current condition remains unknown, leaving a cloud of uncertainty hanging over the outcome of this harrowing ordeal.
