Love Rocks NYC Concert to Benefit God’s Love We Deliver and Project Angel Food
The annual Love Rocks NYC benefit concert is returning for its ninth year, promising an unforgettable night of music and philanthropy. This year’s event, held at the iconic Beacon Theatre in New York City on March 6th, will serve a dual purpose: continuing its long-standing support for God’s Love We Deliver, and extending its generosity to Project Angel Food in Los Angeles, in response to the recent devastating wildfires in the area.
Since its inception in 2017, Love Rocks NYC has become a significant fundraising event, raising over $50 million and providing 5 million meals for God’s Love We Deliver. This year, the concert’s reach extends to the West Coast, offering much-needed aid to Project Angel Food, which, like God’s Love We Deliver, provides essential services to those in need.
The concert boasts an impressive lineup of music legends and contemporary stars, ensuring a night filled with diverse musical styles and memorable performances. The stage will be graced by iconic figures like Cher, Alicia Keys, and Mavis Staples, alongside rock veterans such as Peter Frampton, and jam band virtuoso Trey Anastasio. Kate Hudson, known for her acting and occasional singing talent, will also take the stage, alongside Michael McDonald, known for his distinctive vocals. Representing the contemporary rock scene, Struts frontman Luke Spiller and Eurythmics star Dave Stewart promise to deliver electrifying performances.
Beyond the musical performances, the evening will feature appearances from notable celebrities including Amy Schumer, Tracy Morgan, Susie Essman, and Alex Edelman, adding a touch of humor and star power to the event. The inclusion of such prominent figures underscores the widespread support for the cause and the commitment of the entertainment industry to helping those in need.
Tickets for the concert, which begins at 8 p.m. ET, are available for purchase through Ticketmaster.com. For those unable to attend in person, a livestream option will be available. Viewers can sign up at veeps.events/loverocksnyc to access a livestream link to the concert via Veeps.com for $24.99. Subscribers to Veeps All Access can tune in for free. A portion of all proceeds from the livestream will support the mission of God’s Love We Deliver of providing home-delivered meals to New Yorkers affected by severe illness.
The core mission of Love Rocks NYC is to support organizations that provide crucial services to vulnerable populations. God’s Love We Deliver, the primary beneficiary since the concert’s launch, was founded in 1985 during the AIDS pandemic. The organization provides home-delivered, medically tailored meals to individuals in New York City living with severe illnesses, ensuring they receive the nutrition they need to maintain their health and well-being.
Project Angel Food, founded in 1989, mirrors God’s Love We Deliver’s mission in Los Angeles County. The organization provides free, nutritious meals to individuals too sick to shop or cook for themselves. In April 2023, Project Angel Food reached a remarkable milestone, delivering its 16 millionth meal. The organization’s work is particularly vital in the wake of the devastating wildfires that have impacted the region, leaving many individuals displaced and in need of assistance.
Dave Stewart’s involvement in this year’s concert is particularly noteworthy. The Eurythmics star was approached by iconic fashion designer John Varvatos, one of the executive producers of Love Rocks NYC, and immediately agreed to participate. Stewart plans to perform two Eurythmics songs with vocalist Vanessa Amorosi. For Stewart, a dedicated philanthropist who also collaborates with José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen, the opportunity to support Love Rocks NYC was an easy decision.
Stewart expressed his enthusiasm for the diverse lineup, stating, "There isn’t one person on the lineup I don’t like, so it was like, oh, great, Alicia, Beck, Cher. I love Mavis Staples, obviously, and I’ve been following Kingfish for a while and Grace Powers is such a great up-and-coming artist."
Stewart is particularly looking forward to reconnecting with his old friend Beck, whom he last saw around 2005 when they performed at the Sit N Spin laundromat/music club. He reminisced about the unique venue, saying, "I just remember there was a hole in the wall where you could get a coffee and a little stage, so at 1 a.m., there we were!"
The organizers of Love Rocks NYC are hinting at surprise musical pairings throughout the evening, adding an element of anticipation for both the audience and the performers. While the star-studded lineup is undoubtedly a draw, the organizers emphasize that the mission of the concert remains the top priority.
"This year’s concert will be even more important," said executive producer Greg Williamson. He highlighted the critical need to support both God’s Love We Deliver and Project Angel Food, emphasizing their role as peer organizations within the Food is Medicine Coalition. "When there is a crisis, God’s Love We Deliver always steps up, so supporting this year’s concert will be even more impactful."
The Love Rocks NYC concert serves as a testament to the power of music and community in supporting those in need. By bringing together world-class artists, dedicated organizers, and generous donors, the event is making a tangible difference in the lives of individuals facing severe illness and hardship. The ninth annual installment promises to be another unforgettable night of music, solidarity, and philanthropy, further solidifying Love Rocks NYC’s legacy as a force for good in the world. The concert is not just a celebration of music, but a powerful reminder of the importance of compassion and collective action in addressing critical social needs.
