Grimes Speaks Out on Parenting with Elon Musk, Expresses Concerns about Media Scrutiny

Award-winning singer Grimes has opened up to Time magazine about her experiences as a parent with ex-boyfriend Elon Musk. The interview, published on Monday, delves into the highly publicized appearance of their 4-year-old son, X, at the White House with Musk.

Media Coverage of X’s Oval Office Visit Sparks Controversy

Grimes expressed her frustration with the media coverage surrounding X’s appearance in the Oval Office. "It was like, ‘Grimes slams, Grimes speaks out,’" she told Time. "It’s like, ‘OK, it was a reply.’ But I would really like people to stop posting images of my kid everywhere."

She emphasized her belief that fame should be a matter of consent, especially for children. "I think fame is something you should consent to," she said. "Obviously, things will just be what they are. But I would really, really appreciate that. I can only ask, so I’m just asking."

Ongoing Custody Battle and Parenting Disagreements

Grimes and Musk have been publicly at odds over their parenting styles. Last year, Grimes took to social media to share her struggles in a custody dispute with Musk, expressing concerns about the impact it had on her relationship with their children.

"Spent a year locked in battle in a state with terrible mothers rights having my instagram posts and modeling used as reasons I shouldnt have my kids and fighting and detaching from the love of my life as he becomes unrecognizable to me," she wrote on X.

Grimes revealed that she had been separated from one of her children for five months during the custody battle. She also pointed out the disparity in resources between herself and Musk, who she said had "a fraction of his resources (or iq/ strategy experience)."

Musk’s Growing Family and Allegations

Musk is the father of at least 12 publicly known and acknowledged children. In addition to the three children he shares with Grimes, he also has two children with Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis and six children with his ex-wife, Canadian author Justine Wilson.

Conservative influencer and columnist Ashley St. Clair recently claimed on social media that Musk is the father of her baby, born last year. Musk has not yet commented on the allegation.

Balancing Privacy and Fame for Children

Grimes’ concerns about the media scrutiny of her children highlight the challenges faced by parents in the public eye. As more and more children of celebrities are exposed to the spotlight, the question of how to protect their privacy while allowing them to live their lives authentically becomes increasingly important.

While some argue that the children of public figures should have the same level of privacy as anyone else, others maintain that they have a right to share in their parents’ fame and success. Ultimately, it is up to each family to determine how they navigate this complex issue.
