Steve Toyloy, Former Cincinnati Bearcats Center, Passes Away at 37
On Sunday, the University of Cincinnati announced the passing of Steve Toyloy, a former center for the men’s basketball team, at the age of 37.

"Cincinnati basketball mourns the loss of Steve Toyloy, a Bearcat from 2008 to 2010," the team posted on social media. "Our thoughts are with Steve’s family, teammates, and all who knew him."
College Career
Toyloy joined the Bearcats for his junior and senior seasons, playing a total of 67 games. Despite averaging only 15.8 minutes per game, he made a significant impact, contributing an average of 3.6 points and 3.5 rebounds.
During his time at Cincinnati, Toyloy played under head coach Mick Cronin. In 2008-09, the Bearcats finished 18-14, while in 2009-10, they went 19-16. In 2010, the team advanced to the NIT but missed the postseason in 2009.
Professional Career
Although Toyloy did not make it to the NBA, he continued his professional basketball career overseas. He played in Turkey, Brazil, and Malaysia. In 2019, he was crowned MVP of the Malaysia Pro League.
According to sports writer Jordan Yap, Toyloy was still playing basketball as recently as 2023.
