Mike Rowe: Trump’s Policies Will Revitalize the Trades and Boost American Independence
Television host Mike Rowe, known for his "Dirty Jobs" series, has expressed optimism about President Donald Trump’s first few weeks back in office. Rowe, who has often advocated for closing the skills gap and bringing back manufacturing, believes that Trump’s policies align with his priorities.
Revitalizing the Trades
Rowe underscored the importance of revitalizing the skilled trades, which he sees as crucial to supporting manufacturing. He noted that there are currently 7.2 million able-bodied men who are not seeking work, and that the country faces significant shortages in various trades.
To address this issue, Rowe announced that he is donating a million dollars to microworks.org to train the next generation of skilled workers. He also expressed his willingness to assist the Trump administration in any capacity to support efforts in this area.
Trade Policies: Short-Term Pain, Long-Term Gain
Regarding Trump’s tariff and trade policies, Rowe acknowledged the potential for short-term pain for American industries. However, he argued that the long-term benefits of reducing dependence on foreign countries would outweigh the initial challenges.
"Yes, they will hurt short term. Is it worth it long term?" Rowe said. "Look, do you want to be dependent on China? Do you want to be reliant on other countries? These are really simple, fundamental questions."
Independence and Self-Reliance
Rowe emphasized the importance of economic, energy, and workforce independence for the United States. He believes that Trump’s policies aim to reduce reliance on countries that may have conflicting interests or values.
"I think it will be worth it to be less reliant on countries who hate us," Rowe said. "I think it will be worth it to be less dependent on countries that aren’t terribly concerned with what’s best for us."
A Call to Action
Rowe concluded by reiterating his support for an equal playing field and independence in all spheres. He urged Americans to embrace the opportunity to develop skilled workforces and reduce reliance on foreign countries.
"I am all for an equal playing field, and I am all for every kind of independence we can muster, whether its energy independence, economic independence, workforce independence, all of it."
