Cuban Migrant Incident at ICE Facility Sparks Security Scare and Investigation
On Thursday morning, an incident involving a Cuban migrant at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Miramar, Florida, led to a security scare and evacuation.
Initial Incident
At approximately 7:15 a.m., during a screening process, a Cuban migrant brought a white powdery substance into the ICE facility. A security guard reportedly came into contact with the substance and began experiencing symptoms of illness.
Emergency Response
Authorities were promptly notified, triggering a hazardous material response by Miramar Fire Rescue and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue. The building was evacuated, and individuals were quarantined until the powder could be identified.
Hazmat Response
Hazmat teams donned splash protection suits, masks, and spray guns and entered the facility. They conducted a thorough investigation, utilizing sniffer dogs to detect any potential hazardous materials.
Medical Treatment
The security guard, who had developed neck pain, was transported to a local hospital on a stretcher. The Cuban migrant was also transported to the hospital as a precaution. Both individuals were treated and released.

Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) responded to the scene and immediately launched an investigation. Additional agencies involved in the ongoing investigation include the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the FBI.
