Cohen: Democrats Must Cease Attacks, Trump "Owns the Libs"
In a recent interview with former CNN anchor Jim Acosta, ex-Trump lawyer Michael Cohen urged Democrats to abandon their strategy of attacking President Donald Trump, arguing that he has already secured a significant hold over their base.
Trump’s Provocations and Democrats’ Response
Acosta expressed concerns over Trump’s recent executive orders and statements, labeling them "troubling." However, Cohen dismissed the notion that Trump’s actions are merely "trolling" or "owning the libs."
"This is not a joke," Cohen asserted. "He already owns the libs!"
Cohen emphasized that Democrats’ attempts to denigrate Trump through personal attacks are futile. Instead, he believes that the focus should be on presenting facts to counter Trump’s "crazy, chaotic" behavior.
Trump’s Approval Ratings and Democratic Strategy
Cohen cited statistics indicating that 93% of Republicans and 54% of Americans approve of Trump. While he did not specify the source of this data, a recent Pew Research Center survey found that Trump’s approval rating has risen to 47%, his highest since taking office.
Cohen argued that Democrats’ panic-stricken reactions to Trump’s actions have been ineffective: "If you make everything DEFCON 5, then eventually nothing is DEFCON 5."
He urged Democrats to present facts to combat Trump’s misinformation and adopt a more measured approach: "Our job is to flood the news sphere, the news ecosphere with facts, hard facts."
Criticism of Democrats’ Approach
Cohen’s assessment aligns with concerns expressed by some politicians and strategists. Democratic Representative Jared Golden of Maine has criticized the party’s response to Trump, questioning its effectiveness and warning against overreacting to every event.
"I don’t think that it’s been very effective, the Dem response, so far," Golden stated. "In fact, I’m frustrated by it."
Cohen’s advice to Democrats underscores the need for a strategic approach that focuses on delivering factual information and addressing the concerns of American voters. By prioritizing fact-based communication and avoiding emotional outbursts, Democrats may be able to regain the support of those who have been disillusioned with their current strategies.
