Takata Airbag Scandal Continues to Plague Auto Industry

The Takata airbag scandal has emerged as a persistent and far-reaching issue, affecting numerous auto manufacturers and millions of vehicles worldwide. Despite ongoing recalls and replacements, the scandal continues to unfold, with new cars being added to the list of those with potentially dangerous airbags.

Citroën’s Extensive Recall in Northern France

Citroën recently issued a recall order for over 236,900 C3 and DS3 models in northern France, produced between 2008 and 2013. The vehicles are to be immobilized until the replacement of their airbags, which pose a serious risk of causing injuries. The airbags have already been linked to at least one fatality in mainland France and eleven in overseas territories, where the humid climate degrades a key component of the airbags faster, according to the Ministry of Transport.

A Vast Array of Affected Models

Citroën is far from the only automaker embroiled in the airbag scandal. Volkswagen, Nissan, BMW, Toyota, and many other brands have initiated recall campaigns for a wide range of models equipped with Takata airbags. The Ministry of Ecological Transition maintains a dedicated webpage that lists 30 affected brands and dozens of models, including numerous popular and widely-owned vehicles.
