Toulouse Goalkeeper Guillaume Restes Out for a Month with Thigh Injury

Toulouse goalkeeper Guillaume Restes will be sidelined for approximately a month due to a thigh injury sustained during Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1.

The 19-year-old France U21 international was forced off the pitch at the Stadium in the 43rd minute while the score was still level at 0-0. He was replaced by Norwegian goalkeeper Kjetil Haug.

Restes has been one of Toulouse’s most impressive performers this season, keeping eight clean sheets in Ligue 1, second only to Rennes’ Brice Samba (9).

His absence will be a significant blow to Toulouse’s hopes of avoiding relegation. The club is currently 19th in the standings, two points from safety.

Restes is expected to miss the next three matches: an away trip to Le Havre on Sunday, a visit to Angers the following Sunday, and a home game against Monaco on the weekend of March 8-9.

Injury Details

Restes suffered the injury while attempting to make a save from a shot by PSG forward Lionel Messi. He immediately felt pain in the back of his thigh and was unable to continue.

The exact nature of the injury has not been disclosed, but it is believed to be a muscle strain or tear.

Recovery Timeline

Restes is expected to be out for around a month, which means he could return to action in early April.

However, the club will be keen to manage his recovery carefully and avoid any setbacks.

Impact on Toulouse

Restes’ absence is a major blow to Toulouse’s survival hopes. He has been a key player for the club this season and his performances have helped them to stay in touch with safety.

With Restes out, Haug is likely to take over as the first-choice goalkeeper. The 27-year-old has made just five appearances for Toulouse this season, but he has impressed when called upon.

Toulouse will also need to rely on their other goalkeepers, Isak Pettersson and Dorian Descamps, to provide cover in Restes’ absence.

Fixtures

Toulouse face a tough run of fixtures in Restes’ absence, with games against Le Havre, Angers, and Monaco all coming up.

Le Havre are currently 16th in the standings, while Angers are 14th. Monaco, meanwhile, are third and pushing for a place in the Champions League.

Restes’ return will be a major boost for Toulouse as they look to secure their Ligue 1 status.
