Exceptional Superyacht Auction: Stefania Goes Under the Hammer
La Ciotat, France – March 27th, 2023: An extraordinary auction will take place on March 27th, 2023, at the La Ciotat shipyards in Bouches-du-Rhône. The superyacht Stefania, a luxurious 41-meter-long vessel built in 2021, will be offered for sale with a starting bid of 10 million euros.
A Floating Palace with Unparalleled Amenities
Stefania boasts an array of exceptional features that distinguish her as a true maritime masterpiece. As Emmanuelle Votat, auctioneer and head of the sale, points out, "The vessel features a Jacuzzi, a wood-burning fireplace in the dining room, and a panoramic main lounge."
The yacht’s five spacious suites each include a lavish marble bathroom, while the thick, plush carpeting creates the sensation of walking on clouds. But Stefania’s most remarkable attribute lies in her pristine condition: she is virtually brand new.
Exceptional Provenance: Seized from Illicit Activities
Stefania’s recent history adds an intriguing layer to her allure. The vessel was seized by the Agency for the Management and Recovery of Seized and Confiscated Assets (AGRACS) shortly after her acquisition by a dubious owner who allegedly amassed wealth through illegal means.
"Our investigation initially focused on arms and drug trafficking," said Colonel Christophe Berthelin, commander of the Marseille Research Section, who led the probe. "However, we later realized that financial fraud was the primary source of illicit funds."
At the Epicenter of a Criminal Network
As part of the same investigation, authorities confiscated a lavish villa in Menton, Alpes-Maritimes, valued at 7 million euros. Stefania’s purchase was reportedly part of an orchestrated money laundering scheme.
Cruising the Mediterranean, Evading Capture
"The vessel has fewer than 250 hours on the engine," notes Votat. "She was built in Italy, sailed to her home port in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, France, and subsequently attempted to flee to Dubai before being intercepted in Genoa."
Stefania has been valued between 10 and 12 million euros, but Votat believes she could fetch a higher price at auction.
Government Crackdown on Money Laundering
The Stefania auction is a testament to the French government’s intensified efforts to combat money laundering and destabilize drug trafficking networks. In a policy circular issued in January 2023, Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin emphasized the importance of systematically seizing criminal assets.
In 2023, French authorities have seized over 1.4 billion euros in criminal assets, sending a clear message that illicit wealth will be relentlessly pursued and confiscated.
A Chance to Acquire a Maritime Jewel
For those seeking a luxurious and distinctive superyacht, the Stefania auction presents an exceptional opportunity to acquire a vessel that has turned heads wherever she sailed. Her pristine condition, opulent amenities, and intriguing history make her a captivating proposition for discerning collectors and yachting enthusiasts alike.
