Fire in Frankfurt Senior Citizen Residence Injures Five
Frankfurt, Germany – A fire broke out in a senior citizen residence in Frankfurt am Main on Sunday evening, injuring five people, according to the fire department.
The fire initially ignited on the balcony of an apartment, but the smoke quickly spread to other parts of the building. Firefighters responded to the scene and swiftly rescued several residents from the smoke-filled structure, including those with limited mobility who rely on wheelchairs.
One of the injured individuals was transported to the hospital for medical attention. Several apartments were rendered uninhabitable due to fire and smoke damage, forcing residents to seek temporary shelter elsewhere.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and authorities are working to determine how the blaze started.
Firefighter Response
Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters encountered a well-developed fire on the balcony of an apartment on the second floor of the three-story building. The flames were quickly spreading to the interior of the apartment and generating thick, black smoke.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatuses entered the building and began searching for trapped occupants while simultaneously extinguishing the fire. They encountered heavy smoke and heat, but managed to rescue several residents, including those with limited mobility.
The firefighters used portable ladders and carried residents down to safety. One of the rescued individuals was transported to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
Smoke Damage
The smoke from the fire spread throughout the building, affecting apartments on multiple floors. Firefighters used high-powered fans to ventilate the smoke from the structure and prevent further damage.
Several apartments sustained smoke damage and were deemed uninhabitable. Residents were evacuated and directed to a nearby community center for temporary shelter.
