Rosenmontag Parades in Saxony-Anhalt to Go Ahead, Enhanced Security in Place

No Curtailing of Rose Monday Parades in Saxony-Anhalt, Despite Heightened Security

In the German state of Saxony-Anhalt, traditional Rose Monday parades will proceed as planned despite heightened security concerns. However, the existing security concepts have been revised to be more stringent.

Unveiled Security Measures

While specific details of the enhanced security measures have been withheld to avoid providing potential perpetrators with advance knowledge, the President of the Saxony-Anhalt Carnival Federation, Dirk Vater, confirmed that these measures have been implemented in several towns and cities.

Financial Burden on Carnival Associations

One pressing issue that has emerged is the attempt by authorities in certain areas to shift the costs of security onto the carnival associations. Vater emphasized that this is an unreasonable demand, as the associations simply do not have the financial capacity to cover such expenses.

Dessau: Altered Route and Enhanced Blockages

In the city of Dessau, the parade will take place on the traditional Sunday before Rose Monday. Parade Marshal Torsten Vollert from the Gelb/Rot Carnival Society explained that the route has been modified, with major access roads being blocked by heavy vehicles.

Halle: Reinforcement with City Resources

In Halle, the President of the Halle-Saalkreis Carnival Association, Ingo Küßner, reported that the security concept has been strengthened through collaboration with the city administration and utilities. The association has procured its own vehicles to block streets, contributing to the overall security perimeter. Küßner estimated that the cost of the parade will remain in the range of €13,000 to €15,000, and he expressed confidence in the city’s support.

Köthen: Adjusted Routes

In Köthen, adjustments have been made to the parade route as part of the enhanced security measures, according to Dennis Mormann, President of the Kukakö Carnival Society.

Sponsorship and Funding

Carnival associations in Saxony-Anhalt primarily rely on sponsorship funds to finance their activities. The state federation currently comprises 185 member associations with approximately 19,000 members.
