Dubai Embarks on an Ambitious Underground Transportation Project with The Boring Company
Elon Musk’s The Boring Company (TBC) and Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) have formalized their partnership to establish the transformative Dubai Loop, an extensive underground high-speed transportation network. Spanning an impressive 17 km (10.6 miles), the project will revolutionize urban mobility within the emirate.
Genesis and Unveiling of the Visionary Project
The seeds of the Dubai Loop project were first sown during the World Governments Summit in 2022. Omar Al Olama, the United Arab Emirates’ Artificial Intelligence Minister, announced the initiative during a captivating video interview with Elon Musk. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between TBC and RTA outlines a comprehensive plan for the project’s initial pilot phase. This phase will encompass the construction of 11 stations, designed to facilitate the seamless transportation of passengers through high-speed tunnels.
Electric vehicles will serve as the primary mode of transportation within these tunnels, capable of reaching staggering speeds of up to 160 km per hour (99 mph). The Dubai Loop will mirror the successful Vegas Loop system, which debuted in 2021 and has been successfully transporting passengers through subterranean tunnels in Las Vegas.
