Convicted Offender Deported After Violent Attack in Wismar
Introduction
A 21-year-old Iranian man has been deported from Germany after being convicted of a knife attack that left a woman injured in the city of Wismar. The offender, identified as an "Intensivtäter" (habitual offender), had an extensive criminal record with over 150 offenses to his name.
Criminal History and Deportation
According to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’s Interior Minister Christian Pegel (SPD), the man had been known to police and judicial authorities since 2023. He had committed a total of 156 offenses in 99 cases, including numerous counts of trespass, theft, property damage, bodily harm, robbery, and resisting arrest. The offender had also served a several-month suspended prison sentence in 2024 and had been taken into preventative custody on multiple occasions.
After the knife attack in Wismar-Nord on Sunday, where the man allegedly assaulted a 63-year-old woman without provocation, the suspect was arrested and charged by the public prosecutor’s office. The victim, who was attacked while walking with her dog, sustained a serious leg injury that required emergency surgery. Pegel expressed hope that the woman would be able to leave the hospital within the week.
Following the attack, the Iranian national was deported to Greece, where he had previously been granted protected status.
Public Safety Concerns
The case has raised concerns about public safety and the ability of authorities to deal with repeat offenders. Pegel emphasized the need for strict enforcement of the law and swift consequences for those who violate it.
"We will not tolerate such behavior in our society," Pegel said. "We will use all available means to protect our citizens and bring criminals to justice."
