John Legend and Chrissy Teigen Contemplate Leaving Los Angeles Amidst Environmental Concerns
Los Angeles, CA – Amidst the recent devastating wildfires that ravaged portions of Los Angeles, renowned singer John Legend and his wife, model Chrissy Teigen, have expressed their contemplation of leaving the city. The couple, who currently reside in Los Angeles with their four children, have acknowledged the heightened risks posed by natural disasters and are considering returning to New York, where they once lived.
"Chrissy and I have always considered returning to New York, where we once lived," Legend shared in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. "We probably will, once our youngest ones grow up a bit. Every time nature shows its wrath, we wonder if it’s time to head back East. Who knows? We’re always going to be aware we may have to pack up and go."
The recent wildfires, which erupted in the Pacific Palisades on January 7th, brought the dangers of nature alarmingly close to the couple’s home. The Sunset Fire’s rapid growth prompted them to evacuate their residence and seek shelter at a hotel in Carlsbad.
"We didn’t return until the following week," Legend recalled. "Our home was safe, but many weren’t so fortunate, and the threat still looms. The fires were a collective trauma that shook everyone, including our kids."
For Legend, the experience was particularly unsettling, contrasting sharply with his tranquil childhood in Springfield, Ohio. "My childhood wasn’t as unnerving," he stated. "I didn’t attend public school until I was 11. Up until then, my three siblings and I were homeschooled by our mom."
The couple’s decision to potentially relocate is rooted not only in environmental concerns but also in their desire to provide a more stable and protected upbringing for their children.
Legend and Teigen met in 2006 on the set of Legend’s music video for "Stereo." The pair quickly developed a strong connection, although their path to marriage wasn’t without challenges. At one point, Legend attempted to end the relationship, but Teigen refused to let it happen.
"It wasn’t a typical breakup," Teigen tweeted at the time. "He was on tour and his voice hurt and he was being a whiny face about everything and so yeah, I was like no."
The couple eventually married in 2013 and have since welcomed four children into their lives. Their bond has weathered numerous joys and challenges, with Legend expressing his deep gratitude for his partner and their shared journey.
"I’m so fortunate that we got to spend some time together on that day, Sept. 13, 2006," Legend shared in a video message to Teigen in 2021. "We’re so lucky to have each other. We have built a really wonderful family that I’m so proud of. I’m so honored that I get to parent with you and see the way you are with our children… see how creative and inspired and inspiring that you are as a mother. We’ve been through so much joy and some pain together. We’ve laughed together, we’ve cried together. I wouldn’t want to go through any of this with anybody more than I’d want to go through it with you."
While their decision to leave Los Angeles is not yet final, Legend and Teigen’s contemplation underscores the growing concern among residents about the city’s vulnerability to natural disasters and the potential impact on their families.
