"I was thinking it had swallowed me," Simancas told CNN en Español, describing the surreal moments he spent inside the whale’s colossal maw. The darkness enveloped him as a slimy substance coated his face. Colors whirled before his eyes as the whale’s massive jaws closed around him, drawing him into its unknown depths.
"I didn’t know at that moment if I could do something to survive," Simancas recalled. "I thought I was going to die."
A Miraculous Escape
Seconds felt like hours as Simancas struggled within the whale’s gullet. Just when all hope seemed lost, he emerged from the whale’s gaping mouth, propelled by the powerful expulsion.
Dell, who had witnessed the ordeal with growing horror, described the moment his son resurfaced. "I heard a strong wave behind me," Dell recounted. "When I turned around, I didn’t see Adrián or his boat, so I got worried. About three seconds later, I saw him shoot out to the surface, and the inflatable boat came out after him."
Despite the terrifying brush with death, both father and son expressed an unyielding determination to continue kayaking together. "We’re going to keep going out," Dell said resolutely.
