Hertha BSC’s Cristian Fiél Determined to Resurrect Team’s Fortunes After Three Consecutive Defeats
Following a disappointing streak of three successive defeats, Hertha BSC head coach Cristian Fiél remains steadfast in his belief that he can turn the club’s fortunes around. As the team prepares for a crucial away game against Fortuna Düsseldorf, Fiél acknowledges the urgent need to break the cycle of negative results.
"We don’t need to dwell on Regensburg," Fiél declared. "Against Hamburg and Kaiserslautern, we played well and should have won, which gives me confidence that we can succeed."
The German-Spanish tactician is acutely aware that only a victory at the Merkur Arena against the fifth-placed hosts can safeguard his position. However, Fiél is grappling with a persistent issue that has plagued Hertha BSC: a lack of goals. The team has failed to find the net for over 150 minutes, including injury time.
Fiél identified Fabian Reese as an exemplary player who possesses a direct approach, while lamenting the hesitancy displayed by his teammates, which has resulted in a dearth of clear-cut scoring opportunities.
"In training, they execute these plays effectively," Fiél puzzled. "But during competitive fixtures, it’s a different story. We need to find that killer instinct, that moment to capitalize on chances. Only goals matter, and we must improve in that regard. I’m optimistic that we can make it happen."
Hertha BSC’s precarious league position adds further urgency to their quest for success. Currently 13th in the table, the gap to the relegation playoff spot is a mere seven points. Fiél dismissed any notion of the team facing relegation this season, confidently asserting that he would not be at the helm if such a scenario loomed.
"Absolutely not," Fiél exclaimed when asked about the possibility of relegation. "If that were to become a reality, the club hierarchy would have taken action before allowing it to reach that stage."
Hertha BSC supporters are eagerly anticipating a resurgence from their team, as the consequences of an extended losing run could be dire. With a crucial game against Fortuna Düsseldorf on the horizon, Fiél will be tasked with inspiring his players to rediscover their winning ways and reinvigorate their belief in a successful season.
