Snow and Sleet Cause Accidents in Brandenburg, Germany
Heavy snowfall and icy conditions in the German state of Brandenburg have led to a number of accidents, but the majority of drivers have adapted their driving to the weather conditions and are exercising caution, according to a spokesperson for the Potsdam Police Headquarters.
Since Wednesday evening (7:00 pm), there have been 18 weather-related accidents. However, the weather has not led to a disproportionate increase in the number of accidents overall.
The West Police Directorate reported a head-on collision between two cars in Brandenburg an der Havel this morning, in which two occupants of one of the vehicles were injured. The injured parties were taken to a hospital. The police attributed the cause of the accident in the Klein Kreutz district to the weather.
In the district of Gollwitz, a car is believed to have collided with a truck due to weather conditions. A woman was injured and taken to a hospital.
The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued a warning for ice in Brandenburg and Berlin on the night of Thursday and Friday, as well as on Friday itself. It is expected to snow intermittently on Thursday evening and night, with three to six centimeters of new snow possible within six hours in some areas.
The snow is expected to ease from Friday morning, with only occasional snowfall expected during the day. Black ice is possible, particularly in the early morning and evening.
Temperatures are expected to range between 1 and -3 degrees Celsius on the night of Thursday, rising to 0 to 2 degrees Celsius on Friday.
